Vincent Van Gogh, 1853-1890 NetherlandsVan Gogh was the major exponent of postimpressionism. He painted over 900 paintings, within them 7 self portraits (he is also considered one important figure in the making of self portraits). Van Gogh's life was very harsh and tormented, he is famous to be the artists who, in deep desperation cut off one ear. His works where only appreciated once he died- at the early age of 37- by German expressionists and fauvist artists. Currently he is one of the most famous and valued painters.
I learned about van gogh in art class my teacher had a poster of this painting.Also i read a book about him it said he painted a picture from a nightmare he had
